  • We focus on companies with the potential to impact human health. Developers of medical devices, novel therapeutics and scientific instrumentation are encouraged to apply, as are those tackling product commercialization constraints or developing IT-driven solutions to large-scale healthcare challenges. We do not fund ag-bio, veterinary, nutraceutical or cosmetics firms.

    At a minimum, applicants must have demonstrated proof-of-concept and a demonstrable tie to Pennsylvania such as:

    1. Headquarters or a facility here

    2. Founders or members of the leadership team reside here

    3. The company is being spun out of Pennsylvania institution

  • This topic is open to discussion. The “sweet spot” for therapeutics is companies that are closing in on an Investigational New Drug (IND) filing. We typically consider medical device companies that have completed an initial prototype and demonstrated proof of concept.

  • We typically invest in seed-stage and Series A rounds. Initial investments usually range from $250,000 - $500,000 with funds released in milestone-driven tranches. Over the longer term, we may invest as much as $5 million per company.

  • We do not sign NDAs or Confidentiality Agreements unless we have elected to enter due diligence with your company.

  • Yes. We allocate a significant portion of our capital to provide follow-on investments of as much as $5 million to companies in our portfolio. We also work with a network of investors to stimulate co- and later-stage investment.

  • We strive to respond to initial applications within one to two weeks, but under some circumstances it may take longer for us to respond. If you are invited to pitch to the investment team, a live (in-person or virtual) presentation will typically be scheduled within four to six weeks.

    In a first meeting we like to get to know the person behind the company, while confirming that it aligns with our portfolio needs. We will typically provide feedback a week to 10 days after we meet. If we decide to explore further, you will work with a specific team member who will guide you through the subsequent steps. It’s an intensive and selective process, but thanks to our venture-level due diligence, funding from LSG Investments signals that a company has a viable, investible idea.

  • We believe early investment from a committed partner – along with targeted business advice – will help life science start-up companies thrive. We will bring our deep industry expertise to bear whenever possible, to help you with access to talent, market data, revenue planning, follow-on funding, and more. In most instances an LSG investment professional will join your Board of Directors.

    In select cases, our Business Opportunity Grants can provide support for specific activities (e.g.; market studies and technical and legal consulting) that can help us better understand the investment opportunity. Applications for Business Opportunity Grants are by invitation only.
