Breast Cancer Start-up Challenge

LSGPA thought you’d like to know that the Avon Foundation, National Cancer Institute (NCI), and Center for Advancing Innovation have partnered to launch a Breast Cancer Start-Up Challenge and business plan competition.  This Challenge is designed to accelerate the commercialization of federally funded inventions, spur economic growth, and provide universities with a platform to further develop their entrepreneurship portfolio.

A few facts about the Challenge:

Topics: Teams can select from ten inventions, most from NCI

Timing: The official launch will be October 1st, 2013

Phases: There will be three – Letter of Intent, Business Plan, and Start-Up

– Business Plan Prize – One winner per invention will receive $5,000
– Start-Up Phase Seed Funding- Business Plan winners are expcted to apply for funding, which could range from $100,000 to over $1,000,000.

Team Design: Each team must be led by a group of three university students. Team leads can invite whomever they wish to their team; there is no maximum size. Four disciplines must be represented: medical/scientific, legal, business and entrepreneurship. Students do not need to embody these disciplines so long as they are represented.
